🌊Hop on your bike and visit unique churches through Amsterdam.
The Posthoornkerk ⛪️🔔As architect Pierre Cuypers himself said: “a tower must be tall, a low tower is an abomination”. And he applied that principle well at the Posthoornkerk. With its three slender towers, the church is an absolute eye-catcher in the old city center. Located behind a more than hundred-year-old fence, the Posthoornkerk is Cuypers' very first building in Amsterdam, who later also designed the Central Station, the Vondelkerk, and the Rijksmuseum. Based on his ideal of the ‘Medieval city’, he wanted to give the church a prominent role in society. The immense height, the many colors of bricks, and the play of light particles that fall through the stained-glass windows give this neo-Gothic church an enchanting appearance.

Ropes Aligned X Why Not X Isabel Cordeiro X Gemma Luz Bosch
What’s that mass throbbing and humming in the air? An organism of some sort? A shrub, a sea urchin, a swarm of bees?A multitude. A suspended entanglement of bodies and ropes. They hold each other knotting limbs and hands and heads and armpits and toes and wrists. Softly grappling, they seek support and offer rest to each other. In slow descent the entanglement unravels releasing the bodies, one by one. While drawing the connected ropes —the umbilical cord, the tentacle, the kundalini, the life support— bodies reveal their individuated mission, which unfolds in sound, dance and in the engagement with the surrounding materiality. The intelligence of the multitude is articulated.
WhyNot & Ropes Aligned welcome you to the vibrant cultural venue @hetmotorblok in Zaandam for the pre-premiere of Unfolding Multitude, a co-creation of vertical dance collective Ropes Aligned, visual artist Isabel Cordeiro and sound artist Gemma Luz Bosch in which visual art, vertical dance and ceramic sounds come together and gravity is being defied.

making slabs from porcelain clay
Unfolding Multitude is a WhyNot produced co-creation by vertical dance collective Ropes Aligned, visual artist Isabel Cordeiro and sound artist Gemma Luz Bosch in which visual art, vertical dance and ceramic sounds come together and gravity is being defied.
To create this performance we had several residencies. We spend our first residence at ekwc_oisterwijk; 2 weeks creating the artworks. EKWC is the European Ceramic Workcentre.
The international artist-in-residence and centre-of-excellence for ceramics. A complete different surrounding for Ropes Aligned. With body parts into the ceramics making slabs from porcelainclay.
That was fun and completely new to us.
Worktitle revolving bodies we dived into this new world of ceramics and played around with the idea of folding & unfolding an ongoing researsch of our collaborating visual artist Isabel Cordeiro.
Using vertical dance and suspension to explore how our bodies transfer information from one another and into the claybodies.
Some pictures of our residencie at EKWC.
